Guide for Hydroponic Grow Kit – 1000ml Mason Container
Share
It's fascinating to watch a tiny herb sprout emerge, especially when it springs to life in a simple mason jar on your windowsill. Whether you're passionate about fresh basil, mint, or other easy-to-grow herbs, or simply want to add some greenery to your kitchen, the Hydroponic Grow Kit with its 1000ml Mason Jar is a simple, beautiful, and sustainable way to bring a little nature into your daily life.
Here's how to do it
What a Complete Kit Should Contain (and What You Need to Have on Hand)
In your kit, you will find:
- 1x Hydroponic Growing Media, it fits perfectly with the included pot and round basket.
- 1x 1000ml glass Mason jar (lid included, if desired).
- 1x 5cm round basket.
- 1x 3.8cm round rock wool.
Also to have at home:
- A little warm water.
- A well-lit place, but away from direct, intense sunlight.
- A rock wool substrate.

Step 1
Insert your rock wool washer into the round basket.
Step 2
Add lukewarm water to the 1000 ml Mason jar. The water should reach half the height of the rockwool substrate.
Step 3
Wait 30 minutes for the substrate to be well soaked in water and a little less firm.
Step 4
Add the seeds gently to the middle of the substrate and to a depth of at least 5 mm.
Step 5
Avoid direct exposure to light until the first shoots appear. A dark, warm, and draft-free location is ideal during this phase.
Step 6
Check once a day that the substrate does not dry out, adding water as needed up to the first leaves (cotyledon).
Step 7
To help get the plant off to a good start, you can add a gentle nutrient solution to the water, 1 to 2 ml for your 1000 ml mason container. Refer to the label on your nutrient solution jar.
Step 7
Place your seedling in a well-lit space, ideally near a window, but away from direct sunlight to prevent it from overheating, especially during the warmer months. It will thrive in a room temperature between 18°C and 24°C. Natural light will help it grow evenly, as long as it's not overexposed. To encourage balanced growth, remember to turn the pot every other day.
Easy maintenance
-
Check the water level in the Mason jar and add water as needed. When there are roots longer than 2 cm, the water should be 1 cm from the basket.
- As a general rule, add a nutrient solution to the water once every 15 days.
- Every 30 days, empty the container completely, clean it with water, then refill it with water and add a new dose of nutrient solution.
- If your plant's roots grow too much in the Mason container, it is perfectly fine to gather them together by forming a knot.
- If you need to clean the stand, hand washing with warm water and mild soap is recommended.
To maintain its shape and effectiveness, the hydroponic growing medium is not dishwasher safe.
